Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß has this weekend provided an insight into the reaction of Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick to the news of Nico Williams’ sudden change of heart regarding a Camp Nou switch.

The name of wide-man Nico has of course dominated the headlines across Spain for several days now.

This comes after the 22-year-old shocked the masses, in rejecting a potential move to Barcelona for the 2nd year running.

After coming to an agreement on the terms of a contract with the Blaugrana several weeks ago, Nico pulled the rug out from underneath Deco and co, by suddenly signing a new long-term deal with Athletic Club.

The news left all from fans to players and the media in a collective state of shock, with it having been widely agreed that Nico’s Camp Nou switch was a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’.

And as alluded to above, over the last 24 hours, an insight into the response of Hansi Flick to Nico’s snub has also been forthcoming.

The info comes courtesy of the aforementioned Uli Hoeneß, who relaid the details of a recent phone conversation with Barca’s headmaster.

Speaking during an interview with BR24Sport, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, Hoeneß explained:

“We were all surprised (that he extended his contract). I had close contact with Hansi Flick, who is on vacation in Tegernsee, and they were also surprised because they practically had an agreement with him. I don’t understand what (Nico) wants, but in my opinion [Athletic Club] are just trying to get more money because next year he will cost more than 60 million euros.”
