Asmir Begovic believes Queens Park Rangers forward Sinclair Armstrong has all the tools to become a ‘top player’ after his impact on the first-team this season.

Sinclair Armstrong becomes an important figure at QPR

It’s been a hugely disappointing campaign for the R’s so far, with Gareth Ainsworth’s side in the relegation zone after picking up just eight points from the first 12 games.

However, the one positive has been the emergence of Armstrong, who has become an important figure in the XI.

Whilst he had his breakthrough in the previous season, making 22 appearances, he had failed to establish himself as a starter. But, that has changed now, with the 20-year-old embracing the additional responsibility.

A return of just one goal shows that Armstrong does need to improve his end product, but he brings a lot more to the team with his physicality and how he can lead the line.

And, he certainly seems to have impressed Begovic, who told Sky Bet that the youngster has the potential to go a long way in the game.

Sinclair [Armstrong] has got a lot of potential, he’s a physically gifted player. Sinclair’s got a lot of ability and the world’s right there in front of him.

It’s really all up to him of what he makes it, he’s got a really good attitude, he wants to learn. And the more games he plays, the more trust he’s given and opportunities he earns, the better he’s going to get. So, that’s just going to take a bit of time like any young player.

I’ve seen a lot of good young players in the past and it’s important we take everything in his stride and not put too much pressure and expectation immediately on him. Overtime, he’s really going to progress well and step by step he’s going to become a top player.”

How good can Sinclair Armstrong be?

Firstly, Begovic has had a career that has seen him play at the highest level, so whilst he would always talk up a teammate, these words will mean a lot for the youngster.

You can see the point the keeper is making as well, because the Ireland international has a lot of potential.

His physicality makes him hard to deal with, and he clearly has a willingness to learn and improve, which is what he needs to do.

Again, there are areas he has to improve, but you have to remember that we are talking about a very young player. The exposure to the first-team this season will have helped him so much, even if it’s been a tough season overall.

What next for QPR?

The only focus for all connected to QPR is about getting results to climb out of the relegation zone as soon as possible.

Ainsworth’s side are back in action at West Brom this evening, with Armstrong sure to play a part at The Hawthorns.

It does look a tough game on paper, but the R’s chief will be demanding a response after the disappointing defeat to Huddersfield last time out.
