‘Go far in the UCL’ – Barcelona star congratulates Bayer Leverkusen on Bundesliga title | OneFootball

A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has taken to social media late this evening, to send a message of congratulations to Bayer Leverkusen.

As much, of course, comes on what marks a historic day for Bayer in Germany.

Owing to a five-goal drubbing of Werder Bremen, Xabi Alonso’s troops officially positioned themselves out of reach of reigning champions Bayern Munich atop the Bundesliga table.

Die Werkself, as a result, have secured their first-ever Bundesliga crown, a testament to the frankly remarkable job being done by Alonso on the bench at the BayArena.

Messages of congratulations, in turn, have since poured in from across the continent, for both the club’s boss, and Bayer Leverkusen as a collective.

And, as alluded to above, adding his name to this list a short time ago was a leading member of the first-team ranks at Barcelona.

The player in question? İlkay Gündoğan.

Taking to his official ‘X’ account on Sunday night, midfielder Gündoğan hailed the new champions in his home country, before also tipping Leverkusen to make some noise in next season’s edition of the Champions League:

‘Congratulations to @bayer04fussball on the championship – there can be no two opinions about whether it is deserved. What an achievement – wow! If the team stays together like this, then they can go far in the UCL. I’m excited!’
