Girona chairman Pere Guardiola, brother of Man City’s Pep Guardiola, spoke to the media and explained that due to restrictions on temporary stands being used in UEFA’s premier club competition, they may be prohibited from playing games at their home ground, Estadi Montilivi.

As reported in Mundo Deportivo, the decision will be made ‘over the next few weeks‘ regarding whether Girona’s ground will be fit to host games in the Champions League.

With the current temporary stands, Girona’s ground has a capacity of 14,000, however, when these stands are removed this capacity falls to 9,000 spectators.

When speaking about an alternative venue, Pere said, “The other option is to look for another stadium and that would mean moving to Barcelona, ​​that is plan B, although our intention is not to have to move.”

All this comes whilst Girona prepare to welcome Barcelona to Montilivi next Saturday, in a game which will see a battle for second place in the La Liga standings.
