After collapsing during the match with Standard Liege at the weekend, Gent defender Noah Fadiga has been examined by medical experts. As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, the son of Khalilou Fadiga was fitted with a defibrillator after undergoing successful heart surgery on Thursday. The similarities between father and son are stark, with the senior Fadiga also having undergone a similar operation. Despite the seriousness of the surgery, Fadiga is expected to be able to play for Gent again this season.
The 24-year-old joined Gent a few seasons ago after being released from his contract with Ligue 1 side Brest. The French side had been concerned about heart irregularities that had been found during medical testing. The defender was given the all clear to play, but Brest allowed him to leave. This is the only incident that has happened since he joined the Buffaloes last season.
