Massively against the run of play, the visitors took a shock lead when Pedro Rocha weaved his way around the Flamengo defence before firing a powerful shot into the bottom left corner from the top of the box.

The lead, however, wouldn’t last long as the Rubro-Negro’s star man Gabriel Barbosa received the ball in the box before firing into the roof of the net, drawing the visitors level.

Fortaleza defender Marcelo Benevenuto’s clumsy challenge on the stroke of halftime gave Barbosa a chance to complete an early comeback. The 26-year-old stepped up to the penalty spot and stuttered his run before cooly slotting the ball beyond Fernando Miguel.

Despite their dominance, Dorival Júnior’s were slow out of the break and Rocha pounced in the 52nd minute to draw the hosts level leaving Santos helpless in the Flamengo goal.

The match would stay level until the dying embers, when David Luiz failed to adequately clear a cross, which allowed Moises to fire off a rocket from 18 yards out.

While Santos was able to stop the effort, the ball rebounded straight to Caio Alexandre, who made no mistake from close range.

The loss keeps Flamengo in fifth place on 45 points while lifting Fortaleza back into the Copa Sudamericana places with 34 points.
