Former Espanyol boss Mauricio Pochettino did not have a successful year at Chelsea last season, leaving this summer after a single season which finished in midtable. However it has not taken him long to find work again.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Pochettino has agreed a deal to take over as head coach of the US men’s national team. The ex-Espanyol, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain boss will pen a two-year deal with the USMNT, which wil see him in charge for their home World Cup in 2026.
In recent years, Pochettino has been heavily linked to a return to Spanish football, with Real Madrid and Barcelona both at various points rumoured to be interested in him. However an unsuccessful stint at PSG, where he had Lionel Messi, Neymar Junior and Kylian Mbappe, and being unable to arrest Chelsea’s decline, has seen his stock take a hit in recent years, from being considered one of the best in the game.
