Fleetwood Town are bidding to sign Jack Diamond from Sunderland this summer, according to a report from Football Insider.

The Cod Army are looking to have a better season in Sky Bet League One this year compared to last, with 21/22 proving a campaign that saw them battling against relegation for much of the season.

They escaped the drop, though, and can look ahead to this season, with them starting in decent enough fashion having won one game and lost the other so far in the league.

They sit 10th in the table at this early stage, and they’re clearly looking for ways they can keep improving the squad with Football Insider reporting that Diamond is on their radar and that interest has been registered.

According to the story, Fleetwood boss Scott Brown wants to add a wide attacking player before the window shuts and Diamond is at the top of his wishlist, with Sunderland open to the player’s exit.

The Verdict

This is a transfer that you could see playing out pretty easily.

Diamond is a good player but is perhaps not going to be playing regularly in the Championship for Sunderland.

A move to Fleetwood may suit him, then, as it sounds as though there is a ready-made position for him in the side, and we’ll soon see whether Scott Brown gets his man.
