Santiago Gimenez could be the next Mexican figure headed to the Eredivisie.

Feyenoord is eyeing the Cruz Azul striker as a possible transfer. But it won't be easy for the Dutch side, as Gimenez remains a vital component of the Liga MX team and has two more years left in his contract.

The 21-year-old first debuted with Cruz Azul in 2017, and has since gone on to become a staple in their starting 11. The player has managed 18 goals and 11 assists in 103 appearances for the Liga MX side, lifting the 2021 League trophy and 2022 Campeon de Campeones Cup along the way.

He’s contributed three goals in the first three games of the 2022 Liga MX Apertura, exerting dominance under head coach Diego Aguirre. His club success has propelled Gimenez to seven Mexican national team call ups, most recently featuring in El Tri’s 3-0 Concacaf Nations League victory over Suriname on June 11 and the 1-1 draw against Jamaica on June 14.

Gimenez remains in the running for a spot on Mexico’s 26-player World Cup roster, likely to be selected over Club America forward Henry Martin by head coach Gerardo Martino.

Current Feyenoord Sporting Director Denise de Klose is also no stranger to Liga MX talent, after serving as Director at Chivas and Tigres, and Coordinator of National Teams in the Mexican Soccer Federation for several years.
