FC Bayern Women host RB Leipzig for the first time at the FC Bayern Campus on Saturday for Matchday 16 in the Google Pixel Bundesliga. Kick-off is at 12:00 CET and will see the players debut their exclusively designed kit.

State of play

Bayern followed their 3-0 win against Carl Zeiss Jena and progress to the DFB Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 victory away at Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend thanks to goals from Klara Bühl and Lea Schüller. The result kept Alexander Straus’s team a point ahead of Wolfsburg at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Bayern won the reverse fixture in Leipzig 3-0.

Opponent: RB Leipzig

The promoted side currently sit 10th in the table with 13 points from their 15 games. Leipzig lost 4-0 in Wolfsburg last time out, ending an unbeaten run that has seen them beat Köln (2-1) and Frankfurt (2-1), and draw with Essen (4-4) to put some space between themselves and the bottom two.

Team news

There was good news at the Campus this week as defender Magdalena Eriksson returned to training after her broken metatarsal and will be in the squad on Saturday. Straus remains without Carolin Simon (cruciate ligament), Weronika Zawistowska (cruciate ligament), Cecilia Ran Runarsdottir (kneecap), Ana Maria Guzman (knee) and Tainara (illness). Franziska Kett is also still unavailable due to a muscular problem.

Pre-match quotes

Alexander Straus: “Leipzig are a good team who can pose a threat to us on a good day. We can’t learn too much from their last game against Wolfsburg, but we can’t underestimate them. They also beat Eintracht Frankfurt before the international break. That shows the potential their players have. We prepared for various approaches during training this week. The mood was positive and we’re looking forward to a sell-out on Saturday. Then it’s about being fully alert from the first minute, performing and bringing up the next win.”

Mala Grohs: “The secret behind us keeping so many clean sheets is that we don’t allow many chances. We defend very well together from front to back, meaning teams really rarely get into our final third. RB Leipzig always think of something and want to do something special because they probably have nothing to lose in this game. We need to be set for everything. But we’ve obviously taken a look at the opponent.”
