In a recent report, journalists Danny Rust and Dean Jones revealed that Manchester United are eyeing a loan move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha this summer. It has been stated that the Red Devils are eager to acquire the services of the Portugal international on loan this off-season.

Palhinha’s Impressive Form In German Football

The 30-year-old served as a decent presence in Bayern Munich’s squad last season and managed to produce a run of solid displays for them at the centre of the park. Palhinha made 25 appearances for the German club in the previous campaign across all competitions.

The Lisbon-born talent anchored the midfield well at times as he made 20 tackles, 13 blocks and 4 interceptions in the Bundesliga last season. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 92.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the German club will expire in the summer of 2028. Hence, the Red Devils would be wise to try and arrange a loan deal for him in this transfer window.

Should Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim Go For Palhinha?

Palhinha is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and is a good passer of the ball.

Standing at 1.90m, the Portugal international can use his strong frame to his advantage and win some 50-50 aerial duels for his team in the middle of the park.

We can expect Palhinha to add more bite and steel to Man United boss Ruben Amorim’s midfield department. He has already got some valuable Premier League experience under his belt and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Mancunian club.

At 30, Palhinha has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best. Thus, it makes sense for the Red Devils to go for a player of his quality and experience in this summer transfer window. He is good enough to help the Red Devils challenge for a European spot in the Premier League next season. Hence, Amorim should consider sealing a loan move for him soon.
