Donny van de Beek is finding his second season at Manchester United just as difficult as his first. The Netherlands international has yet to start a Premier League game and has been limited to substitute appearances, with just one start in the Carabao Cup so far.

The midfielder was reportedly close to leaving Manchester United at the end of last summer’s transfer window but ended up staying at Manchester United.

Journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Van de Beek has ‘huge chances’ of leaving Manchester United in January, but a return to former club Ajax is currently not in the pipeline.

Despite returning early from the injury which kept him out of this summer’s European Championship, Van de Beek’s fortunes haven’t turned for the better at the club and it’s not looking like it ever will.

The 24-year-old is a wonderful footballer but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to continuously overlook him is puzzling. Should this unfortunate trend continue, a permanent exit from the club in the near future is looking likely.

It would mark a disappointing 18 months for Van de Beek at the club – expectations were high when he left Ajax to complete a dream move to Manchester United.
