The former Bolton man struggled in his first half-a-season in Yorkshire.
Huddersfield Town are in the midst of constructing something of a superteam for Lee Grant in his first managerial job.
The former Manchester United and Stoke City goalkeeper is being given seemingly every tool possible in order to succeed in his maiden campaign in the Terriers' dugout, or any technical area for that matter.
Of the seven additions that they have made so far this summer, the latest, Owen Goodman, has joined them on loan from Crystal Palace off the back of an outstanding season with AFC Wimbledon that led them to promotion via the play-offs. Their interest in the young shot-stopper was first called by Football League World.
Huddersfield already had a very strong team last season, it just underperformed. They went out of their way massively in the January window to address their issues up front by signing Joe Taylor from Luton Town and Dion Charles from Bolton Wanderers.
The latter, a proven goalscorer in the third tier, struggled to make an impact at the John Smith's Stadium after making his £750,000 move. If Grant can get him firing, Don Goodman believes that Town will have a seriously good forward on their hands.
The Sky Sports pundit exclusively told FLW: "Dion Charles is pretty proven at League One level. Last season, obviously, was disappointing and when he arrived at Huddersfield, I think there was great expectation, but he wasn't able to score in 18 League One games for them.
"And as the games go by, there's no doubt about it, you could probably see a little bit of confidence going. So if Lee Grant can get the Dion Charles of the previous two seasons where he'd scored over 20 goals for Bolton in both of them, then Huddersfield are going to be in business.
"So it's about unlocking that key and instilling confidence back into Dion Charles, because there's no doubt about it, there's a striker that is more than capable of scoring quite a lot of goals in a decent team in League One, and that's what I feel Town are going to be."
We know that Grant has an abundance of brilliant League One players to choose from. The question surrounding the club and him is how is he going to get the best out of his many weapons?
Because he has no history in management, or even much of a coaching background, the details of how he is going to set his Huddersfield teams up remain relatively unknown, although he is likely to fall into the category of the modern, high-pressing or possession-based manager.
Whichever way Grant leans towards, it could have a big effect on Charles' production. He thrived in most of his seasons under Ian Evatt at Bolton, often with a lot of teammates close by, but he wasn't able to conjure up much in a system that didn't play to his strengths as much.
