Lee Hendrie expects Huddersfield Town to deal with the ‘pressure’ that comes with their impressive transfer business so far this window.

The Terriers endured a disappointing season last time out, as they failed to reach the play-offs in League One following their relegation to the third tier.

That prompted owner Kevin Nagle to shake things up this summer, with Lee Grant named as the new head coach, and the former Man Utd coach has been backed in the market in some style.

Huddersfield have been aggressive in the window so far, recruiting the likes of Marcus McGuane, Lynden Gooch and Alfie May, whilst they are also chasing Birmingham’s Marc Leonard.

Therefore, many observers expect Huddersfield to be in the mix for automatic promotion come May, and Sky Sports pundit Hendrie exclusively told FLW that he feels they will be able to deal with that level of expectation.

“There is always going to be pressure, and Lee Grant will have to deliver this season with what they’ve done.

“Bringing in the likes of McGuane and May to the football club, and obviously others, you do feel that they have to start producing, and the personnel they’ve brought in during the summer means there’s always going to be that added pressure as you’re bringing in players of that calibre.

“But, I think they’ll deliver. They have brought players who can adapt and play in League One, they’ve got some big hitters that have dropped down, but they’re doing good business, and it’s down to Grant to get the players delivering on the training ground and on match day.”

We know that Nagle has big ambitions for Huddersfield, but there’s no denying he has made mistakes over the years since he bought the club.

However, fans will be pleased with how this summer is playing out. The appointment of Grant was a bold one, given his lack of experience.

But the rookie boss has been supported in the window, and the club appear to have bought well, particularly with May's arrival, as he can be the prolific goalscorer they have lacked.

They have a nice mix of youth and experience, and it’s notable that many of the players have been there and done it in League One in the past, so, as Hendrie says, they will be able to deal with the pressure.

Obviously, there needs to be some patience with Grant initially, as the squad has been transformed, and it can take time for the team to develop an understanding on the pitch.

But he will certainly appreciate the support he has received, and it’s now down to the new boss to get the team ready for the new season, which Huddersfield will approach with huge amounts of optimism.
