Legendary former Inter, Roma, Real Madrid, and Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano feels that the Nerazzurri showed great spirit and character against Barcelona on Wednesday.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the former forward praised Inter’s display in the 3-3 Champions League group stage draw.

Inter needed a result against Barcelona to keep themselves in position to reach the knockout rounds of the Champions League for the second season a row.

Achieving this was always going to be difficult away at the Camp Nou, however, and things looked even more difficult when the Nerazzurri went into halftime 1-0 down.

However, the Nerazzurri never stopped fighting and pushed throughout the second half.

A thrilling second period saw the teams trade the lead back and forth until things finished 3-3.

This result is enough to see the Nerazzurri plant one foot in the knockouts, and Cassano felt very impressed by the way in which the team fought to secure it.

“If you’d asked me if I’d have bet on a great Nerazzurri performance on the evening before the match, I’d have never taken you up on it,” he admitted.

“But everyone had a great match,” he continued.

“Incredible, even Asllani and Gosens.”

Cassano called Inter’s performance “A match that showed a big heart, full of pride ,and above all courage and mental strength. They deserved to win.”
