Everton set to have Seamus Coleman fit to face Burnley | OneFootball

This has not been an easy international break for Rafa Benitez and his Everton side.

Injury blows have rocked the Toffees camp with Dominic Calvert-Lewin managing a broken toe and pulling out of the England squad.

There has also been a problem hanging over Seamus Coleman’s fitness.

The Irishman linked up with his country a fortnight ago but picked up a hamstring problem in their first clash of the break.

Coleman’s recovery time was unknown but in a big boost to Everton, it looks as though he’ll fit for Monday night’s game with Burnley.

Via Lancashire Live, Benitez said: “It was not very bad. I think he can be available on Monday.”

Considering the Merseyside outfit only have one true option on the right-hand side of defence, this is a considerable advantage for the Toffees going into their latest Premier League match.

Forgetting the fact that he’s the club captain, he is the most consistent option in that third of the pitch in their ranks.

If he wasn’t fit, Benitez could have utilised Ben Godfrey out of position or looked towards Jonjoe Kenny.

The trouble is, he lacks any sort of reliability or consistency. During Kenny’s time with Celtic last campaign, the full-back was a liability and made a number of errors in their biggest game of the season; the Old Firm derby.

He also proved against Huddersfield a few weeks ago in the Carabao Cup that he is rusty and not up to the standard required at Everton.

Coleman, on the other hand, has been a vital presence at Goodison Park for a number of years now.

The defender has made more tackles per game (2.3) than any member of Everton’s backline this term while his 2.7 interceptions per match are the second-highest number in the squad.

Against a physical Burnley side, it will be a massive relief for Benitez to have a player with those numbers at his disposal.

Combine that with the defender’s experience and he remains one of the most valuable options in the entire squad.
