Everton reject Marseille’s bid to sign Neal Maupay on loan

Everton have rejected Marseille’s bid from Olympique de Marseille to sign centre-forward Neal Maupay (28), according to a report this Tuesday from The Athletic. Les Phocéens have identified the former OGC Nice youth product as a backup striker in the wake of Faris Moumbagna’s (24) serious ACL injury. The Ligue 1 side reportedly offered Everton a season-long loan for Maupay with an option to buy for next summer.

However, Maupay’s contract with Sean Dyche’s Everton expires in June 2025, meaning a move to Marseille would require him to put pen to paper over a contract extension with the Toffees. The outlet understands that the Liverpool-based Premier League would favor a permanent departure or loan with an obligation to buy.

Maupay was an unused substitute during Everton’s season-opening 3-0 home loss against Brighton and Hove Albion. L’Equipe understands that the 28-year-old would be keen to join Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille side.
