In a recent tweet, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Everton are facing stiff competition for Villarreal winger Nicolas Jackson this summer. It has been mentioned that the Toffees will have to rival Newcastle United in pursuit of the Senegalese wide player who has a €32m release clause in his contract.

Jackson’s Recent Form In Spanish Football

Jackson has made a good start to this campaign as he has managed to put in a couple of decent performances for Villarreal in the final third. The 21-year-old found the back of the net once and earned one assist in ten matches for the Yellow Submarine this season across various competitions.

The Banjul-born sensation has caught the eye by averaging 1.5 shots and 0.7 interceptions per 90 minutes in La Liga football. However, he has been a bit sloppy when distributing possession in the opposition half after completing just 68.7% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).

Jackson’s current deal with the Yellow Submarine will run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, the Toffees have a good chance of landing him on the cheap during this January transfer window.

What Will Jackson Bring To Everton?

Jackson has got decent pace under his belt which he can use to cause a few problems for his marker out on the wide areas. He can even create space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target but needs to find a way to be more prolific on the attacking end of the field. Jackson has got a good leap in him and even possesses the strength to shield the ball in tight spaces out on the flanks.

At 21, the Senegalese sensation has got a lot of room to grow as a winger. He is versatile enough to play anywhere across the frontline. Jackson is primarily a right-sided winger but can also play on the left wing or as a secondary striker down the middle if needed. However, there are some concerns over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football.

We can expect the Gambia-born talent to add more pace and firepower to Frank Lampard‘s frontline at Goodison Park. He could even help the Toffees cope with fixture congestion better in the coming seasons. Therefore, it makes sense for Everton to go all out in the battle to land Jackson when the transfer window commences at the start of January.
