Euro sides in for Bojan Miovski, but Rangers don’t need him

While Cyriel Dessers’ stock has risen a little following his midweek exploits, Rangers fans would still be open to a new striker arriving at Ibrox, with division over the Nigerian’s reliability.

Sure, Ibrox Noise has tried to explain that he’s the most effective hitman we’ve actually had since Kris Boyd in 2009, and that in the last 30 or so years Rangers have had few to no strikers getting close to 25+ goals a season, and that’s including the Walter, Advocaat, Eck and Gerrard eras.

So finding that today is next-to-impossible, and yet fans still want a 25-league-goal-a-season man up front.

That said, murmurs persist over Aberdeen’s Bojan Miovski, with the North Macedonia striker attracting attention from LaLiga and Serie A in the form of Girona and a host of Italian sides.

If Rangers are to make any inkling of a move for the former Magyar Testgyakorlók Köre Budapest Futball Club (that’s easy for us to say) striker then they will have to beat some strong and financially-powerful competition.

Miovski only really found himself getting going at Pittodrie, his numbers hiking up hugely, managing 30 goals and assists in 53, but, and there’s a BIG but, if we spin some context here compared with Dessers, Rangers’ man himself got 31 in 54.

And therein is the nub. Both strikers scored 16 in the league last season, Dessers getting one extra assist.

In reality, Bojan Miovski and Dessers are almost exactly equal for goals and assists, and yet for stats, one of them is actually modest to significantly better.

Dessers had 49 shots on target, Miovski 44. Total shots? 103 to 104. OFF target? Miovski 40, Dessers 31.

Goal conversion: Miovski 15.38%, Dessers 15.53%.

In every single stat that actually matters, including goals and assists, Cyriel Dessers is either equal to Miovski, or ahead.

The idea Rangers need to spend £6M+ on another Cyriel Dessers really is quite silly.

What lets Dessers down a fraction is that he is more guilty than Miovski of being caught offside, and of wasting big chances. These are the two big blots against the Nigerian.

But for the end result and pure numbers, they’re at least equal or Dessers is better.

This all said, there’s no evidence Rangers have any interest in Miovski at all. Looking at the goals, assists and data, there’s literally no point either.

We’ve got a Miovski already.
