He scored v Man City and Liverpool, should Rangers make the move?

As we explained in an earlier entry, Rangers are open to free agency additions this autumn, with a squad that is only ‘partially’ complete, and potential further exits looming.

Obviously the potential of James Tavernier’s possible exit could change things further, and force Rangers into acquiring a new right back, but for now, as things currently are, the club is still looking into the right free agents who can add something to Philippe Clement’s squad.

And if we look at the free agents currently doing their thing without a club, aside the ones we released, that is, there really is a strong selection of quality players out there, ready to sign for a new side.

And if Rangers are in the market for a new striker, given Danilo’s current travails and having to solely rely on Cyriel Dessers, we can’t help but note ex-Watford and Burnley striker Andre Gray with his excellent 115 appearances in the Premier League, with 31 assists and goals in there.

This is a heavily-experienced Premier League striker whose hit rate, at the top domestic level of club football, was a decent number, hence he reached £15M market value.

In the Championship, naturally, a lot stronger, 146 appearances and 76 goals and assists, Andre Gray is one we’ve spoken about before, and his most recent form is 10 goals and assists in Saudi Arabia in 28 appearances, which is certainly decent.

He has no real injury history, and he’s consistent.

He stepped up to PL level and delivered a decent return there, scoring against Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal and Newcastle to name only 5, so he’s got experience of finding the net against tougher opponents for sure.

Is he top class? We’d stop short of calling him that, but he is someone who can score, who can assist, and is ready for his next club. He’s 33, so not a spring chicken, but it’s not like Rangers are chock-full of oldies these days.

His experience could be a useful fillip at Ibrox.
