Chelsea are top of the table after their early kick off win against Fulham – but it’s not all good news.
Liam Delap limped off after 15 minutes with a hamstring injury, and the outlook is not so good.
Enzo Maresca speaks to TNT Sport at full time.
Enzo Maresca spoke to the TV cameras right after the game, and gave a negative report on the problem:
“Hopefully it is not long. In this kind of case, it’s always [usually]… it can be six-eight weeks.”
In his press conference, he gave a little more detail, although he was less precise on his timing:
“Liam’s injury doesn’t look good in terms of, he was full speed, hamstring, so that required, like always, weeks. And then in terms of another striker, to be honest, we just finished the game from the changing room and came here for the press conference, so now after, when we finish, we’re going to sit and we’ll see if we take any decision. That’s all.”
Hamstrings tend to be at least a month out, and this one looked like more than a minor tweak.
Maresca was then asked whether Chelsea could bring in a new striker in the light of Delap’s injury, or even if Nicolas Jackson’s loan to Bayern Munich, expected to be confirmed tomorrow, could be cancelled. As you would expect, he said the game had only just finished and he needed to speak to his sporting directors about the plan:
“As I just said, we just finished the game, and came here, I have no idea. We’re going to sit now and we’ll see. Serious, honest, I don’t have any idea.”
Whatever happens, it’s bad news for Chelsea. It sounds like nothing is off the table.
