El Salvador, Guatemala begin with wins in Beach Soccer Championship

MIAMI – El Salvador and Guatemala collected victories as the 2025 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship began its opening matchday with opening bouts in Group A on Tuesday at the Malcolm Park Beach Soccer Facility in Nassau, Bahamas.
The two best teams in each group will progress to the semifinals. The two finalists in the tournament will qualify for the 2025 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
The opening matchday provided a three-point start for El Salvador and Guatemala, setting up a match with first place on the line to begin Wednesday’s slate.
El Salvador 6, Costa Rica 1
El Salvador won 6-1 against Costa Rica to begin its campaign at the top of Group A.
Andersson Castro scored the first goal of the tournament in the 9’ of the first period to place La Selecta in front. Jesús Valencia equalized the encounter one minute later for Costa Rica’s only goal of the encounter.
Emerson Cerna and Jason Urbina struck in the 11’ and 6’ of the second period, respectively, to place El Salvador in the lead. La Selecta sealed the three points with goals in the third period from Castro in the 12’, Melvin González in the 8’, and Cerna in the 7’.
Mexico 3, Guatemala 4
Guatemala won 4-3 against Mexico to begin second in Group A on the opening matchday.
Guatemala got a two-goal lead in the first period with goals from José Lem in the 8’ and Samuel Pérez in the 7’. Ramón Maldonado responded for Mexico in the 3’ to end the opening segment.
Pablo Crocker scored the lone goal of the second period, in the 3’, placing Guatemala up by two.
Héctor Acevedo added a second for Mexico in the 11’ of the third period. Lem struck again for Guatemala one minute later for what would be the match-winning goal before Maldonado cut the deficit for Mexico three minutes before the end of the encounter.
