Manchester United remain keen on strengthening their midfield despite missing out on preferred target, Carlos Baleba.

United’s goalkeeping department caught plenty of attention against Arsenal, as Altay Bayındır’s howler gifted Arsenal their match-winning goal.

However, the Red Devils also lacked balance in midfield. Casemiro started well alongside Bruno Fernandes in a midfield two. However, he offered little with the ball at his feet when United were looking to cut open Arsenal’s low block.

His replacement, Manuel Ugarte, was arguably worse. The Uruguayan offered an injection of energy, but showed naivety in possession. Meanwhile, the very talented Kobbie Mainoo remained an unused substitute.

Ruben Amorim is unconvinced with his midfield options. As per multiple reports, the United head coach considers Baleba as his dream target. However, Brighton & Hove Albion’s firm stance has forced the Mancunians to look elsewhere.

Manchester United keen on Camavinga

According to Fichajes, United have set their sights on Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

Real are blessed with a number of high-profile midfielders. As such, the Frenchman is not guaranteed a regular starting berth under Xabi Alonso.

It is claimed United are considering “presenting a proposal” close to €80m to test Los Blancos’ resolve. The Spanish giants are reportedly open to listening to offers for the 22-year-old. The young midfielder’s contract in Madrid runs until 2029.

Amorim views Camavinga as an exceptional option for his system, as the France international has the physicality and ground coverage to allow Fernandes the freedom to go forward.

Manchester United miss out on Wharton

The Spanish outlet add that United also enquired about Crystal Palace talent Adam Wharton.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United sent scouts to Stamford Bridge to watch Wharton in action against Chelsea.

However, Palace have no desire to open negotiations for the Englishman, as they are likely to lose Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi this summer.
