Manchester City could be set for a blockbuster transfer fee from the Saudi Pro League this summer, should they entertain ambitious interest in Ederson, according to reports.

Claims over the last few days have suggested that the 30-year-old shot-stopper could be eyeing a fresh challenge away from the Etihad Stadium, having spent the last seven years working under Pep Guardiola.

A large share of Manchester City’s success in transitioning to a side comfortable with playing the ball out from defence into midfield can be attributed to Ederson’s on-the-ball abilities and calming nature in possession.

While Ederson has been largely unchallenged in his position in goal for the Etihad club, the arrival of Stefan Ortega in the summer of 2022 has brought about a fresh challenge, and narrowed the gap between first and second choice goalkeepers.

And the latest season has seen Ortega granted increased opportunities to impress in goal through several injuries to Ederson, with the German putting in strong performances to impress many onlookers.

Whilst understood to be unconnected to the battle for first-choice shot-stopper at the Etihad Stadium, according to the information of CaughtOffside, Ederson is a transfer target for Saudi Pro League duo Al Nassr and Al Ittihad this summer.

It is claimed, amid uncertainty over a potential price tag in recent days, that the 30-year-old shot-stopper could be sold by the Premier League champions for an offer in the region of between €45 million and €50 million.

Manchester City are likely to turn to the transfer market for a new goalkeeper during the summer window regardless of the future of Ederson, with Stefan Ortega’s own future somewhat uncertain.

The 31-year-old’s contract expires at the end of next season, and with a clear intention to be a club’s number one choice in goal, a number of top sides across Europe are likely to exploit his agreement at the Etihad.

Elsewhere, third-choice Manchester City goalkeeper Scott Carson will certainly be at the club into next season, with the Englishman penning a one-year contract extension this week to keep him at the Etihad Stadium until summer 2025.
