Chelsea star Eden Hazard has finally revealed the real reason he decided to remain at Stamford Bridge instead of completing a move to Real Madrid.
Hazard has admitted that he would love to play in Zinedine Zidane’s squad at Real Madrid, but would not complete a transfer to the LaLiga giants unless he leaves Chelsea as Champions League winners.
When asked about his decision to remain at Chelsea, the Belgian told Onze Mondial that he has “always been like that. From the moment things are going well. When you change, it’s because it’s not going well.
“If in your job it’s great and you’re the boss, do you move? Why would you move? You’re not going to change [if it’s going well], right?
“Besides, you know everyone [at the club], you’re good, all of that. That’s what happened to me in Lille. I knew everyone, it was amazing. And when I felt that I had to change, I left,” Hazard continued.
“And here at Chelsea, it’s the same thing. This is my sixth year. I have my family with me here. My wife and children feel great. I am not far from Belgium so my family can come quite often. I am at a big club. Every year or so I win a trophy. On the pitch, it’s going really well.”
But the 26-year-old playmaker has revealed his desire to leave Chelsea as champions of Europe.
“Not leaving Chelsea without winning the Champions League? It’s not easy to win the Champions League. Maybe I will never win it!
“Of course, I would like to do what Didier Drogba did as he left after winning the Champions League. It would be nice to do that. It would be a beautiful ending for me.”
“But I do not really think about that. I just want to give the maximum. If I do not win the Champions League, it will be like that, it will be my story. In any case, I will do everything to win it.”
Chelsea drew with Atlético Madrid in Tuesday’s Champions League group stage clash, meaning Antonio Conte’s men must prepare for games against either PSG or Barcelona in the next round:
