Tickets for Durham vs Manchester United have sold out within just five days of being on sale. The two sides will meet next month in the Continental Cup.

The Championship side are set to welcome the Red Devils to Maiden Castle on Wednesday October 26th with a scheduled 7pm kick-off.

Tickets for the Conti Cup group stage match were made available on Thursday September 8th and demand was high from the start. Durham sold 50 percent of their total capacity in the first ten minutes as fans scrambled to secure their seats.

An announcement the following Monday declared that the fixture had sold out completely, an impressive five days after going on sale.

This is not the first time Manchester United have made the trip to Maiden Castle, with the two teams having faced each other in last season’s Conti Cup group stage.

That match went to penalties when the sides drew 2-2 after 90 minutes. Durham held on but United went on to win the shootout 5-3 with a winning goal from Alessia Russo.

If last year’s nail-biting game is anything to go by, fans of both teams will be in for a treat.

Strong home support anticipated

With Man United boasting four Euro-winning Lionesses in their squad, fans will be excited to see the likes of Russo and Ella Toone in action.

However, Durham will be anticipating a strong crowd of home supporters. Their opening league match against Sunderland earlier this year saw a record club attendance of 1,668.

Since then, they have faced Blackburn Rovers at home with a total of 824 fans in attendance.

The average league attendance for the Wildcats in 2021 was 616. If current trends prevail, the 2022 attendance average will almost certainly be higher.

All of this highlights the steady growth of Durham’s fan base. Consequently, it is expected that fans of the Wildcats will be out in full force at Maiden Castle on October 26th.

Durham’s next league match will be away to London City Lionesses this Sunday, kicking off at 12pm. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here. The Wildcats’ next home game will see them start their Conti Cup campaign against Sheffield United.
