How it went

A quick start for Tottenham almost resulted in an opening goal after just 30 seconds. The visitors immediately went down the left flank as Matilda Vinberg played a razor sharp pass to Bethany England.

The skipper couldn’t quite take her first shot on target, and it flew over Mary Earps’ bar just from 12 yards. It was a rather sedated start from Man United, but as the game went on, they started to see more of the ball.

Amid a good spell for the Reds, Nikita Parris drove down the wing and fired a low cross into the six yard box, which was scrambled away by the visitors. Minutes later, the Lioness proved to be a live-wire down the right-hand side again. She played the ball to international teammate Ella Toone, who could only drag her shot wide.

The first breakthrough of the game came after just 13 minutes on the clock. Following a set piece situation, Melvine Malard nodded the ball beyond Becky Spencer in the Spurs goal to fire United into the lead.

Marc Skinner’s side seemed to be in control at this point, but Spurs popped up with a chance to equalise almost out of nowhere. Jessica Naz sent a low cross in from the left to find Matilda Vinberg in space, but the Swede skewed her shot wide.

Tottenham finally found their equaliser just before the half hour mark, as England made it 1-1. Just minutes after drawing level, Spurs left United stunned as they took the lead through Naz, who fired home Vinberg’s pass.

Man United snatch a point

As the time ticked down, it looked like an equaliser was far beyond the Red Devils. Skinner’s unbeaten record with Man United against Tottenham looked to be ending. However, after a flurry of late corners, Rachel Williams met the ball with a brilliant header, which crashed off the bar. Maya Le Tissier reacted first to the rebound and netted a last gasp equaliser for United in stoppage time.

Thanks to Le Tissier’s late heroics, United move up to fourth in the Women’s Super League table. The Reds are level on points with Liverpool and ahead on goal difference. Meanwhile, Spurs sit six points behind in sixth place.
