Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram, who is expected to become a free agent this summer, has reportedly been ‘offered’ to La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Thuram’s contract expires at the end of the season and there is a lot of speculation regarding his next club.

Gladbach are reportedly resigned to losing the France international, who is attracting interest from a host of Premier League clubs.

A recent report from Spanish newspaper Sport outlined Aston Villa’s intentions to compete for his signature, while Man Utd, Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea are also believed to be keen.

There is also interest coming from Italy. Journalist Fabrizio Biasin confirmed this week that Inter Milan are interested, and also provided an update on Romelu Lukaku – who is on loan from Chelsea.

“Let’s remember that Inter do not have endless money to throw out the window, and right now I don’t think they’d extend his [Lukaku’s] loan,” Biasin said.

“I should also point out that, I think, Inter are doing everything that they can to bring in Marcus Thuram, who I think has essentially told them that he would consider it, but is waiting for offers from other leagues.”

The report starts off by stating that Thuram will be ‘one of the bargains of the next transfer market’, which is a fair assessment.

Barcelona are ‘following’ the player ‘closely’ and appreciate his ‘versatility’ and obviously his contract situation with his current employers.

The Blaugrana have signed lots of free agents in recent seasons due to their financial troubles.

Like clockwork, they sign three or four players for nothing then there are fears they will not be able to register them due to the state of their wage bill, but always end up being able to.

Incidentally, Thuram’s father, Lillian, played for Barcelona between 2006 and 2008 and has endorsed the 25-year-old’s potential move to the Nou Camp.

“If you give me the contract, if you have it, I sign it. But the important thing is that Marcus continues to grow as a footballer,” the former defender said during on a visit to Barcelona to participate in the presentation of the Sports and Education against Racism award.

“Seeing my son at Barca would be a dream, this club is the dream of any footballer,” Thuram added.

The report adds that Chelsea have the Gladbach forward ‘on their agenda’, Paris Saint-Germain ‘value him as a reinforcement and not a first option’.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid see him as an ‘ideal footballer’ for their style under Diego Simeone, Inter have ‘been on top of the attacker for months’, and Man Utd are also ‘linked’.

Thuram ‘likes Barca a lot’ and is very eager to take the next step in his career.
