Barcelona have been linked to Paris Saint-Germain’s Xavi Simons in recent weeks, but they will have their work cut out getting a deal over the line. They are one of six major suitors.
Simons is to meet with PSG to establish a plan of action for the summer, but currently both are leaving towards an exit on loan, or a €60-70m move away from the club. The latter would rule out Barcelona from having any hope of bringing Simons home.
On Tuesday it emerged that Bayern Munich Sporting Director Max Eberl is also a fan of Simons, and now MD say that Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen are also keen to have him. The riches of the Premier League will also try to tempt Simons to England though, as Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United ponder a move for him.
As of yet, no firm moves have been made, and if it is just a loan for Simons next season, the sentimental pull and the prospect of a starting role could entice him to Catalonia. However Simons has also shown in recent years that he prioritises the best thing for his development, and in that case others have much more stable projects, and Xabi Alonso is the perhaps the most exciting manager in Europe to work for.
