Do or die at Dens for Philippe Clement and Rangers

Dundee v Rangers is do or die for Philippe Clement’s men.

With a horrible record in recent Premiership matches, the form has completely melted at Ibrox, and Rangers sit an abysmal 7th in the SPL over the past 5 fixtures, with just two wins.

It’s safe to say 56 is certainly by no means won tonight, but it can be 100% lost if Rangers don’t secure the victory.

Celtic have momentum now, just that one loss in the last five to Hearts, and while their form isn’t spectacular, they’ll take the 3 wins and draw at Ibrox in their last four as an overall positive.

And if Rangers don’t secure the 3 points in hand v Dundee, it’s effectively game over.

Celtic will drop more points, of that there is no doubt, because they are no great shakes under Brendan Rodgers. They are, in fact, rotten, but Rangers, after such incredible seeming progress for 4+ months, have gone decidedly Beale-esque the past 6 weeks.

Which is why anything less than 3 points tonight surely spells the death knell on 56.

Most Rangers fans have only modest hopes of getting anything at Parkhead, and all matches after tonight are the tough Split encounters.

Rangers got a bit lucky with the Split matches – they will not have to face Killie at Rugby Park which is a massive bonus. But overall, it’s against the top 5 and with the wheels falling off this aggressively the past 6 weeks, it’s hard to see a recovery.

But this is why tonight can help. We face a top 6 side, at a horrible venue – come out of this one with a win and the gap is just the one point and it’s as good as all square at the top.

Do that, and the recent malaise can be viewed a little more ‘favourably’.

But honestly, seeing Tav, Goldson and Barisic, probably Wright and Silva.. maybe Lawrence? That lot in the XI would give us little-to-no-hope, and the only thing worse would be a recall for Sam Lammers.

Clement has to make massive, massive changes, because it’s his job on the line.

It’s do or die for this team tonight, and a lot rests on the manager to do.
