Rangers trio ‘told they can leave’ amid summer overhaul

Ibrox Noise understands Rangers players Kieran Dowell, Ben Davies and Tom Lawrence have all been told they’re surplus to requirements and to find new clubs this summer, amid what promises to be a massive reshuffle alongside the out-of-contract departures of Kemar Roofe, John Lundstram and Borna Barisic.

The trio, all under contract, have barely featured under manager Philippe Clement, with Dowell having made just four starts and 4 sub appearances, albeit alongside injury. Davies was prominent at the start but faded hard and is now deemed expendable, while Lawrence hasn’t impressed.

The big problem in here is Davies’ wages. On a ludicrous £30,000pw he will be very, very hard to shift. No one in the Premier League wants him, he might get a gig in the Championship but even the top teams in England’s second tier will baulk at his wages. There’s also the appalling £4M transfer fee Ross Wilson shelled out on this deal so all-in-all that one is a problem.

Dowell? Just not part of Clement’s vision going forward, not good enough, too injured – he was a bewildering Michael Beale signing in the first place, and Rangers will not too have much issue getting him off the books – his wage is around £10,000 and he was mercifully a free.

Tom Lawrence is on the same salary as John Lundstram is currently – around £20K+, and that might be tricky to shift as well, but with his being a free, there will be a few Championship sides interested in paying a modest fee to take him off Rangers’ hands.

Kemar Roofe is not thought to be offered a new deal and will leave, freeing up an excellent £25,000pw salary, and we know Lundstram and Barisic are both moving on, with the former on £22K and Barisic just fractionally less at around £21K.

Ryan Jack? We have no word on him yet, but we’d be surprised if he gets a new deal now – Jon McLaughlin certainly won’t.

But it’s the exits of Lawrence, Davies and Dowell on top of Roofe, Lundstram and Barisic which begins to ring about the changes at Rangers this summer.

We’re now perilously close to the transfer window, and a major overhaul is afoot.

About time.
