He may be 37 and far from the top of his game nowadays, but Dimitar Berbatov has still got that special something.

Back in August, the former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur striker signed for Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters.

Managed by ex-England goalkeeper David James and featuring Berbatov’s old team-mate Wes Brown in defence, the Blasters have twice finished runners-up to Atlético de Kolkata (ATK) in the three seasons of the ISL’s existence.

It was hoped, by signing a player of Berbatov’s calibre, that the Blasters could fight their way to a first league championship this term but with 14 games played, they were languishing in mid-table and their star striker was yet to find the net in any of his first six matches for the club.

But on Thursday, that all changed. The Blasters travelled to face ATK (who are currently behind them in the table) and took a 33rd minute lead through Icelandic striker Guðjón Baldvinsson.

ATK quickly hit back with a goal from former Wigan Athletic and Newcastle United full-back Ryan Taylor, but ten minutes into the second half, a loose ball sat up nicely on the edge of the box and Berbatov stroked it home in typical Berbatov fashion.

Unfortunately for the Blasters, an equaliser 15 minutes from time courtesy of former Manchester United trainee Tom Thorpe meant the spoils were shared, but Berbatov is off the mark and there’s bound to be plenty more moments of magic where that one came from.
