Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries feels optimistic about his form at the Nerazzurri after a solid performance in the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 win over Spezia at the San Siro this evening.

Speaking to InterTV after the Serie A clash, the Dutchman acknowledged that it has taken him a bit of time to settle in, but stated that he is confident with the football he’s now playing.

Dumfries arrived in the summer from PSV as the Nerazzurri looked to make up for the loss of Achraf Hakimi on the right following the Morrocan’s sale to Paris Saint-Germain.

Expectations were high for the 25-year-old, who has already showed flashes of what he’s capable of in an Inter shirt.

However, the wing-back’s form has not been consistent enough to displace Matteo Darmian from the starting role on the right.

Against Spezia, however, Dumfries looked strong and helped the team to a controlled win with a comfortable display both sides of the ball.

“The most important thing was to bring home the win,” he stated, “we were did very well and showed our strength.”

He went on that “We scored a beautiful goal, then Lautaro did well to convert a cool penalty. We are very happy.”

On playing in front of the San Siro, he stated that “It was very nice because I hadn’t started in a while. It’s always a good feeling to play here.”

“The important thing was the three points,” he added.

“I am aware that I have had ups and downs since I have been at Inter,” Dumfries explained. “I am very self-critical and I am the first to acknowledge when I’m not good enough, but I am settling in more and more.”

“My teammates help me with this,” he went on, “especially de Vrij, Dzeko, and Perisic, but also D’Ambrosio and Calhanoglu.”
