Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal’s development as an elite footballer has been spectacular to behold, especially given the age at which he is doing so.

Last season, he firmly established himself as one of the best players on the planet with his magic week in and week out and his ability to decide games single-handedly.

In the short time elapsed so far this season, he has shown that he has only gotten better with more precise dribbling and pace added to his arsenal. Needless to say, he could well become one of the greatest players the sport has seen.

David Villa praises Yamal

Speaking in a recent press conference ahead of Barcelona legends’ game against Tigres UANL legends in Mexico, club legend David Villa opened up on the special talent that Lamine Yamal was bestowed with.

“Lamine’s talent is brutal, he is a boy who has stung out very quickly. He is a unique player who will give a lot of joy to the whole football world,” he said via Mundo Deportivo.

Elaborating on how it was staggering for a player still in his teens to be so influential at the highest level of the game, Villa said,

“He is barely 18 years old, so you have to be patient and help him; it is not normal to have so much talent at that age. He’s doing fantastic things in the national team and in Barça.”

Yamal is expected to start in Barcelona’s next game this weekend, which is against Rayo Vallecano away from home.

After being relatively subdued in the previous game by Levante’s defence, he will look to return to full flair on the night.

After all, he is now one of the firm favourites to win the Ballon d’Or and will want to showcase his qualities leading up to the ceremony in September.
