It’s been a bit of a busy 24 hours in the transfer rumour mill, and Celtic find themselves in the middle of it…

Now, depending on which side of the North Sea you’re reading from, Kasper Dolberg is either packing his bags for Glasgow or still sitting tight in Brussels.

From the Danish side, respected outlet Bold.dk seem pretty certain Dolberg is Celtic bound, reporting that Kasper Dolberg is close to joining. They claim the club are ready to shell out around £8 million for the 27-year-old striker, with just the ‘fine details’ left to iron out before he signs a four-year deal.

“Kasper Dolberg is close to joining Celtic, who are reportedly paying around £8m for the Danish Anderlecht striker. He will soon sign a four-year deal.

According to Bold’s information, Kasper Dolberg is close to switching to the Scottish giants, who are sending 8 million pounds – equivalent to just under 70 million kroner – in Anderlecht’s direction.

The club’s coffers in Brussels are in turmoil after the Belgians missed out on European football on Thursday when they lost to AEK Athens in the Conference League playoff.

Now they can instead look forward to collecting a larger amount of millions on the Danish national team striker.

As Bold understands it, only the final details need to fall into place before Dolberg will sign a four-year deal with Celtic.”

So, in Denmark it’s being painted as almost a done deal.

In fact, some Danish fans are already making some predictions regarding “Mr Ice” — apparently Dolberg’s nickname for his cool finishing — to Celtic, predicting he’ll “burn the league down” in the comments section of the ‘Bold’ article.

Meanwhile, back home, The Herald’s Stephen McGowan is urging caution. His information differs quite a bit, and suggests Celtic haven’t yet matched Anderlecht’s asking price, nor have they struck an agreement with Dolberg over personal terms.

“Anderlecht have told Celtic to increase their offer for Danish international Kasper Dolberg. The Parkhead side are prepared to pay a sum in the region of £8million to land the 27-year-old as a replacement for Swansea target Adam Idah. After initial talks, Celtic have yet to match Anderlecht’s asking price or the player’s personal terms.

“Despite the financial blow of crashing out of Europe after a defeat to AEK Athens on Thursday night the Belgians are reluctant to let their biggest asset leave and would prefer to sell or loan Argentine striker Luis Vazquez instead.”

Asked directly about Dolberg signing at today’s press conference, Brendan Rodgers wasn’t giving much away –

“Not as of yet. There are obviously a number of players that we’re looking at that we need to bring in, especially on the front line. But I think we’ll be pretty busy and active over the coming days.”

When pushed on whether more than one striker could be on the way in should Adam Idah leave for Swansea, Rodgers didn’t hesitate:

“Ideally. Yeah.”

So, what do we make of it all?

From Denmark, Dolberg-to-Celtic is painted as imminent. From Scotland, it’s possible but far from tied up. What’s certain is that Celtic are in the striker market, Adam Idah looks bound for Swansea, and Brendan Rodgers has made it clear he wants reinforcements sharpish.

Dolberg would be a statement signing, he’s a proven international, European pedigree, and at 27 in his peak years. But as with all Celtic deals, it’ll come down to money. Do the board stretch to what Anderlecht and Dolberg want — or does this one drift away like so many nearly-signings before it?

For now, as ever, it’s a waiting game. But whether you believe the Danes take or the Herald’s, Celtic are circling a striker who would bring ice-cool finishing to Celtic and that’s a wee bit more positive than things looked 48 hours ago. But time is ticking.
