Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas has withdrawn from the Costa Rica squad for their upcoming Word Cup qualifiers.

The 34-year-old was injured in Friday’s 3-2 win over Bordeaux, but his country’s federation still included him when they made their announcement on Saturday.

However the Los Ticos have since had a change of heart on the matter.

“Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas was reported by his club as injured after playing a game with his team for the French Football League,” a statement from the Federación Costarricense de Fútbol said.

“The medical team of the Parisian club reported that the goalkeeper received a severe blow to the right elbow and began to swell on the plane during the return trip to Paris.

“After an MRI it was determined that the player suffers from a sprain with difficulty in extending the limb.

“Taking into consideration that the player is ruled out for the November games, the coaching staff decided to call Kevin Briceño in his place.”
