Fermin Lopez continues to dominate the headlines when it comes to Barcelona, with the midfielder attracting strong interest from Chelsea. And with less than 72 hours to go until the summer transfer window closes, a decision on the matter is imminent.

The latest on the matter is that Fermin wants to stay at Barcelona, although there are fears that he could be convinced to join Chelsea. However, these concerns are not shared by Hansi Flick.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano (via Diario AS), Flick made it clear that he expects Fermin to remain at the club. He also confirmed that he has spoken to his player regarding Chelsea’s interest.

“At the moment he is here. I have spoken to him and I am convinced that he is going to stay. In the end, I don’t know what will happen. He’s here and I’ll be happy when the market is over. I have told him my opinion. Players and their environments think things. There are people who may know more things, but I’m happy that Fermín plays for us and he showed it last season. His style is different from others, and he can help us a lot.

“He is a player who is aggressive on the pitch without and with the ball, also when he comes in from the penultimate line. He’s a great player at scoring, making the final pass… When he’s on the pitch and he’s in good spirits, you can see it. Long live Barça, love Barça. I don’t want to say much, but the club is in his heart.”

Fermin could play his final Barcelona match against Rayo

As things stand, Fermin will be in Flick’s squad to face Rayo on Sunday, although that could change if he opts to leave before kick-off at Vallecas. Equally, he could play and then depart, although his manager is clear that the Spain international will not be looking to move on.
