Seattle Sounders continued their disappointing MLS campaign as they fell at home to Real Salt Lake on Sunday.
Scorers: Rusnák 62′; Córdova 32′, Brody 64′
The Rave Green looked to have taken the lead in the 12th minute at Lumen Field when Raúl Ruidíaz’s wicked shot from the edge of the box cannoned off the crossbar onto the back of RSL goalkeeper Zac MacMath and over the line.
However a VAR check found that Cristian Roldan was marginally offside in the build up.
After soaking up the majority of pressure, RSL took the lead when Jefferson Savarino played Sergio Córdova in behind and the Venezuela international showed excellent composure to finish at the second attempt.
The Sounders were finding it difficult to break down the visitors after the break, and it took a superb low shot from outside the area from Albert Rusnák against his former club to level matters.
But the hosts were guilty of a lapse in concentration just over a minute later when Savarino’s cross found Andrew Brody unmarked at the back post and the left-back beat Stefan Frei from close range.
The Utah side managed to withstand Seattle’s late siege, allowing Pablo Mastroeni’s men to register their first win in four games and move up to fifth in the Western Conference.
It could prove a costly home defeat for the Sounders, who find themselves outside the play-off spots in ninth place with three consecutive away games now to navigate.
