Entering a new week the biggest question marks surrounding the Manchester City squad are around the goalkeeper position. Galatasaray’s interest in Ederson is well-documented. It would also seem that Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford is Manchester City’s first choice to replace the Brazilian international. Looking at the situation from a Manchester City point of view this week could prove to be crucial for the club. City will want a speedy resolution to the situation surrounding Ederson and their potential move for Trafford so this week could prove to be pivotal for the club.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester City are awaiting Galatasaray’s opening bid for Ederson. Furthermore, Romano adds that Galatasaray have been in talks with Ederson over a potential move to Turkey. Romano further reports that club-to-club negotiations are yet to begin over the Brazilian international. Lastly, Romano reports that City have identified James Trafford as Ederson’s replacement.
It would seemingly be only a matter of time before Galatasaray makes their move to sign Ederson. All indications are that the Turkish side is eager to bring Manchester City’s number-one keeper to Turkey. Manchester City’s potential move to bring James Trafford home hinges on Ederson’s future.
But from a Manchester City point of view, they will want the goalkeeper situation resolved as quickly as possible. With Pep Guardiola’s side set to return to pre-season training on July 28, it would be ideal if Ederson’s future and, in turn, City’s move for James Trafford, were wrapped up by then. That way, they can enter pre-season training with those two moves complete. That would be the ideal scenario for City so this week becomes crucial on that front.
The hope is that Galatasaray will bring a suitable offer for Ederson to City. From there if negotiations between the two clubs progress well City can have all of their moves made in terms of the goalkeeper position made this week. Whether or not that can occur remains to be seen.
