Christophe Galtier no longer on Marseille’s managerial shortlist

Christophe Galtier is no longer on the shortlist for Olympique de Marseille’s next manager. Despite Marseille having been strongly linked to Galtier in the past, Foot Mercato reports that the former Paris Saint-Germain and Lille OSC manager will not be in their summer plans to replace interim appointment Jean-Louis Gasset.

Last summer when Igor Tudor stepped down from the role, Marseille were reported to have met with Galtier to discuss offering him the job. However, the timing was not right for the club or manager, with Galtier still needing to find a financial agreement to leave PSG, and Marseille instead turned to Marcelino.

In September, with Marcelino’s sudden departure, again Marseille were revealed to have contacted Galtier and even went so far as to offer the Marseillais the role. And again, the timing was not quite right, with Galtier in the middle of an investigation into allegations of racism during his time as OGC Nice manager, the club went with Gennaro Gattuso.

Galtier to miss out on the Marseille role for a third time?

A Nice court subsequently acquitted Galtier, but it appears as if the Marseille-born manager, currently working in Qatar for Al-Duhail, will once again miss out on the role, with the club keen on a move for Lille’s Paulo Fonesca.
