Chris Wilder has hinted that Jayden Bogle’s future will be with Sheffield United.

The defender is out of contract at the end of the season, but, according to The Star, the club holds an option to extend it by an extra 12 months.

The 23-year-old joined from Derby County in 2020, and has gone on to become a key part of the side over the last four years.

He has featured 32 times in the Premier League this season, including 30 starts, and has contributed three goals (all stats from Fbref).

However, his current contract is set to expire in June, which has raised questions over his future at Bramall Lane.

Wilder has praised Bogle, claiming the deal to bring him to the club, alongside Max Lowe, is one of the best they’ve ever completed.

He is hopeful that the defender will remain with the Yorkshire outfit beyond this season, although he was unable to confirm if his deal had been extended just yet.

“Yes, hopefully [Bogle will stay]. He's been outstanding,” said Wilder, via The Star.

“We knew a lot about him when we brought him into the building, him and Max.

“It was arguably one of the club's best deals, in terms of the numbers.

“I think it ended up being under £4 million for both of them.

“So to get a player who's the highest scorer in the Premier League for us as a defender is great and his overall performances this year have been outstanding.

“It [his future] is something that will really take care of itself.

“His attitude around the place and his performances have been first-class.

“I said a few weeks back, no-one's getting after him or Ollie Arblaster.

“He's got on with his job and he's locked down that position. He's been outstanding.”

Sheffield United's expiring contracts

Bogle came through the academy system at Derby before making the switch to Sheffield United in 2020.

The full-back has competed in the Premier League in two campaigns, with the Blades suffering relegation both times.

Wilder’s team has finished bottom of the top flight table again this year, having struggled in their first year back in the division.

Planning is now underway for life back in the Championship, with Bogle being one of 13 players with expiring contracts.

The likes of John Egan, Oli McBurnie and George Baldock are also set to depart this June unless an extension is agreed or triggered.

But first United must finish their final two games in the Premier League, where they will face Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

Bogle staying will be key for Sheffield United

It is no surprise that Wilder is keen to keep Bogle at the club as he has performed well for them over the last few years, and it will surely be a no-brainer decision to trigger the 12-month option.

He was manager when Sheffield United signed him in 2020, and now could be key to ensuring he remains with the club long-term too.

It’s been a disappointing campaign for the club, but Bogle has still stood out as one of their best players.

He could be crucial to their attempts to fight for promotion straight back to the top division again next season.
