Chelsea have announced the news that star striker Sam Kerr has sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

The Blues confirmed the news via a post on their official club website just a short time ago.

The player has sustained her injury whilst away on a warm weather mid-season training camp with the squad in Morocco. Kerr will now miss the remainder of the current season and is likely to be out for the start of the 2024/2025 campaign.

Kerr’s injury is a real blow with Chelsea still in the hunt for four different trophies this season. The Australian international has scored nine goals for The Blues in 2023/2024 and the club will really miss her qualities throughout the remainder of the season. Chelsea’s biggest target is to end their long pursuit of European glory in manager Emma Hayes’ final year with the club and Kerr’s long-term absence will undoubtedly make that task harder.

Chelsea return to action after the winter break with an Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie against West Ham United at Kingsmeadow next Sunday. The club then face difficult fixtures against Manchester United and Real Madrid in the Barclays Women’s Super League and UEFA Women’s Champions League.
