Chelsea are willing to make Gavi one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League with the west Londoners prepared to offer the Barcelona midfielder a ‘blank cheque’.

Gavi’s future at Barcelona is uncertain following a dispute with La Liga over the teenager’s contract. Barcelona agreed a first-team contract worth €8m per season with Gavi who was previously on youth-team terms, but La Liga insist the Catalans cannot register new players due to the club’s economic issues and the division’s financial rules.

A Barcelona court initially ruled in favour of the Spanish side, before reversing their decision to approve Gavi’s registration.

The situation has seen Gavi return to his youth-team deal and the midfielder could leave Barcelona on a free transfer this summer, with Europe’s top clubs on alert at the potential availability of the 2022 Golden Boy.

AS are reporting that Chelsea are preparing a huge financial offer to sign the 18-year-old and are prepared to ‘break the bank’ in a bid to sign Gavi this summer. Gavi’s intention has been to remain in Barcelona, but the club’s economic difficulties have opened up the prospect of a Premier League move.

Chelsea have held talks with the teenager’s representative, as the Blues look to land one of world football’s most promising young talents.

Gavi became Spain’s youngest debutant when making his first international appearance in 2021 and is the third youngest player – behind Pelé and Manuel Rosas – to score at a World Cup.
