Fofana has also been laid low after suffering a knee injury which will be assessed by members of the club’s medical team still based at Cobham.

Existing casualties Armando Broja, Benoît Badiashile and Marcus Bettinelli are set to continue their respective recovery programmes.

Pochettino included new signings Christopher Nkunku, Andrey Santos and Nicolas Jackson in his squad that crossed the Atlantic.
