Harvey Vale has been announced as Chelsea’s 2021/2022 academy player of the year after a breakthrough season that saw him promoted through the youth ranks, and even make his senior debut with an appearance in the Carabao Cup against Brentford back in January.

Vale ended up with that one start, as well as 4 substitute appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s senior side.

The past winners of this award have almost universally gone on to have success soon after – unfortunately not always at Chelsea, and the left-footed attacker looks set to be the next talent off the production line.

“It’s a massive privilege to win this award and I’m very grateful,” the 18 year old said upon receiving the award.

“If you look at some of the players who have won it in the past, they’ve gone on to do great things for Chelsea and I hope I can do the same. Thank you for everyone’s support throughout the season and hopefully next season can be even better.”

Unfortunately, Vale won’t be getting rewarded with a Premier League debut today – he hasn’t been named in the matchday squad for the dead rubber against Watford.
