Celtic will earn more from Frimpong than they’ll get from selling Tavernier

Talk of mega millions for Tavernier is delusional. Celtic will receive more this summer for a right back who left us in 2021…

The hoorah surrounding James Tavernier in his time at theRangers has been very peculiar to say the least. The man dubbed ‘the blue Cafu’ has had something of a strange relationship with his club’s own supporters during his time in Glasgow.

From rumours of a transfer to Barcelona and cries of an England call up to wanting him stripped of the captaincy, the right back has experienced all the emotions. The truth is that despite a healthy goal record (mainly down to his expertise from the penalty spot and the generosity of the Scottish refereeing brotherhood) and a decent assist record, his overall record as a theRangers player is to borrow Tavs own catchphrase, rather ‘disappointing’

During his time as theRangers captain he’s witnessed Celtic win FIVE trebles – which we can all enjoy using https://create.vista.com/create/animation-maker/ – including a historic invincible treble and record quadruple treble. Not to mention being on the end of some humiliating Glasgow Derby trouncing’s. 5-1 (twice) a 5-0, and 4-0 (twice) just some of the worst derby defeats he’s had to endure during his time at the club.

There is now talk of a megabucks offer in the pipeline for Tav from the Middle East. That I could believe as club’s in that part of the world think nothing of throwing money at average players. But the money spoken about amongst theRangers supporters is laughable to say the least. I seen a few of their deluded supporters mention bids in the region of £15 million! Yip even for the deluded Bears that is quite a stretch.

Realistically they will be looking at a sum of somewhere in the region of £5 million for the Englishman. After all Tav will be 33 years old on his next birthday without an international cap to his name. The Saudis have no qualms about flinging cash at players, but even they would flinch about the thought of parting with £15 million for Tavernier.

And the reality is that Celtic will receive more in the summer for Jeremie Frimpong, a right back who left the club in 2021, due to the clever sell-on clause that Celtic inserted in the deal that took the talented Dutch international from Celtic Park to Beyer Leverkusen.

Celtic signed Frimpong from Manchester City for just £300k and the Celtic manager Neil Lennon stated at the time, that the club would make a significant profit from selling on a player who clearly had it all and was heading to the very top.

“He’s come in for £300,000 and we could sell him for a huge amount of money, so it’s credit to the development of the player himself and what myself and the coaches and club have done for him. I wouldn’t say he was unhappy, just ambitious, maybe, or he wanted to try something else and progress his career at another club” Neil Lennon said as reported in The Celtic Wiki.

Bayer Leverkusen paid just over £10m for Frimpong and could sell him this summer for over £50m, with Celtic reportedly having a 30% sell-on clause, that could net the Hoops a remarkable summer windfall of £12m.
