Sandy McMahon leads the way today as Celtic beat Clyde at Celtic Park 6-1. In a superb game, Sandy scores twice, with other goals from Davie Russell, Pat Gilhooly, George Allan and Alec King.
“Captain Bob” of The Sunday Post says it was the best game of football he had seen for some time, and that Celtic were worth a draw, but the reigning champions went down 2-3 to Hibs at Easter Road. Jimmy McGrory scored twice for Celtic, including one in the very first minute.
16,000 are crammed into Stark’s Park, Kirkcaldy to see a good 3-1 Celtic victory over a fine Raith Rovers side. They are awarded two penalties (one clear-cut, the other dubious) and both are sunk by Mike Haughney, and the other goal is scored by Neil Mochan. Rovers rally near the end with a goal from Bernie Kelly, but Celtic are worthy winners.
Celtic, still smarting from their unlucky defeat by Rangers last week, turn it on to the delight of their 25,000 fans at Parkhead by beating Aberdeen 7-1. Bobby Lennox and Jimmy Johnstone both score two, and John Hughes, Joe McBride and Bertie Auld complete the scoring, meaning that every member of the forward line has found the net.
Celtic’s form has yet to settle this season, but today they travel to Kilmarnock and beat Willie Fernie’s side 4-0 playing some fine football and entertaining the 14,900 crowd with goals from Joe Craig, Ronnie Glavin, Johnny Doyle and Roddy MacDonald.
