Capello: ‘RB Leipzig could have beaten Real Madrid 5-2’ as Del Piero calls Bellingham ‘cumbersome’ | OneFootball

Fabio Capello, Alessandro Del Piero and Paolo Di Canio were shocked by Real Madrid‘s poor performance against RB Leipzig on Wednesday and the ex-Juventus captain called Jude Bellingham ‘cumbersome.’

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday despite a 1-1 home draw against RB Leipzig. They had won the first leg in Germany two weeks earlier thanks to a goal from ex-Milan star Brahim Diaz.

Capello, Di Canio and Del Piero hinted that the Merengues didn’t deserve to win and the ex-coach even claimed that the Bundesliga side would have won the match if they had Real Madrid’s quality in the final third.

“Leipzig played a great game, they dominated and had a few chances but didn’t take them,” Capello said during Sky Sport Italia’s post-match show, as quoted by TMW.

“They played well until the Real Madrid box and that’s where they lacked the quality to win the game. They were unlucky, hitting the post in the final minutes. Real Madrid suffered, and in fact, they were booed after the first half.

“If they [RB Leipzig] had the quality of Real Madrid, they would have won 5-2.”

Ex-Milan, Lazio and Juventus striker Di Canio added: “I don’t know if you guys expected it, but I didn’t! Leipzig destroyed Real Madrid!”

Juventus legend Del Piero, another Sky Sport Italia pundit on Champions League nights, agreed with Capello and Di Canio.

“Real Madrid can’t enter the pitch like this. Leipzig played a great game. They were surprising in terms of personality and it felt like they feared nothing.

“Real Madrid should have reacted differently. I saw exhausted players, they complained too much. Bellingham was cumbersome, Vinicius could have been sent off, even Toni Kroos. Perhaps they realised the attitude was wrong, but with their experience, they should have avoided this situation. Ancelotti will be very angry deep inside.”

Del Piero won the 1996 Champions League with Juventus, losing Finals in 1997, 1998 and 2003. Capello won Europe’s most important trophy for clubs while in charge of Milan in 1993-94.
