BVB chief makes Erling Haaland stance clear with Jadon Sancho to Man Utd comparison | OneFootball

Manchester United are reportedly keen on moves for Borussia Dortmund duo Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland in the summer transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has reiterated that he expects Norwegian striker Haaland to stay at the Bundesliga club this summer, which sounds like the same stance he had a year ago with Sancho.

Last summer Manchester United attempted to sign Sancho but were unsuccessful because both clubs could not come to an agreement over the player’s valuation. A year on and The Times claim Dortmund will accept £86m for his signature, which is quite the drop in price.

Dortmund made it clear they would only sell Sancho for a fee of £108m and refused to negotiate a lower fee, according to the Daily Mail. That’s why he spent a further year at the club, presumably against his will.

Watzke insists there will be no cut-price sales from Dortmund this summer.

“I do get tired of it,” Watzke told BBC Sport. “Last summer, everybody in England, everybody in Europe, every journalist told the public ‘Jadon Sancho will play for Manchester United or whatever’. But he is still playing for Borussia Dortmund. Now everybody writes ‘Erling Haaland will next season play for Real Madrid or for Barcelona, or for this or this’.

“The only way is to look after 1 September at where he is playing. I think I know where he will be playing but that is all I have to say.”

Dortmund are currently fifth in the Bundesliga so it doesn’t look like they will be enjoying Champions League football next season, and I can’t see Haaland being happy without the big European stage.
