Following their automatic promotion back to the Premier League, Burnley have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz.
Ahead of their return to the Premier League, Burnley are beginning their squad building and the Clarets have now been linked with a move for Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz.
The Israel international goalkeeper, who joined Bayern in the summer of 2023 from Maccabi Tel-Aviv, is reportedly the subject of interest from Southampton, too, who will be returning to the Championship next year following their Premier League relegation this season.
24-year-old Peretz has made seven appearances across all competitions for Bayern since he joined in 2023 but has now found himself behind Jonas Urbig and Sven Ulreich, as well as of course Manuel Neuer, in the pecking order with Urbig arriving in the winter transfer window from Cologne.
Peretz’ mooted move to Turf Moor would also surely have to cast further doubt on the future of the excellent James Trafford, who has been magnificent for Burnley throughout the campaign.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Burnley have an interest in Peretz and they have made ‘specific enquiries through Vincent Kompany.’
Kompany, who was in charge of Burnley in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, is set to lead Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title this season and has seemingly deemed the Israeli shot stopper as surplus to requirements.
Plettenberg has said that Peretz will leave Bayern this summer, whether that be on loan or via a permanent transfer. He has previously been linked with Southampton as Saints’ prepare for another busy summer with Aaron Ramsdale looking likely to leave.
Despite the reported interest of both Burnley and Southampton, Plettenberg has also reported that Hamburg have entered the race and have become a ‘serious option’ for the Tel-Aviv-born ‘keeper.
Hamburg will be boosted in their pursuit of Peretz should they gain promotion back to the Bundesliga and they do sit second, tucked inside the automatic promotion spots in 2. Bundesliga with three games of the campaign to go.
Ever since his first half-a-season and then full season on loan at Bolton Wanderers in League One, EFL watchers would have known that James Trafford was destined for big things.
The Cockermouth-born England U21 international came through the academy at Manchester City and, following loan spells with Accrington and then at Bolton, moved to Burnley upon their promotion to the Premier League in the summer of 2023.
He found it tough to make the step up from League One to the Premier League instantly but has since had one of the best seasons a goalkeeper has ever had at any level as the Clarets’ water tight defence propel themselves back into the top-flight.
Having conceded just 15 goals in 44 appearances and having kept 29 clean sheets in those games with two penalties saved and a save percentage rate that is significantly better than the next best goalkeeper in the Championship, Trafford has been being heavily linked with a move away this summer for quite some time.
Newcastle United are the side that have been most heavily linked and talk of Peretz’ potential move to Lancashire will only add to the expectation that Trafford may well be moving on from Burnley as he seeks to properly challenge Jordan Pickford to become England’s first-choice goalkeeper under the management of Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
